A publication was released in the Lund Humphries and Sotheby's Institute of Art Hot Topics series, offering incredible insight into the actively developed plan of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 Strategy, titled, ‘Art In Saudi Arabia: A New Creative Economy?’, (2023) by Rebecca Anne Proctor (Former Editor in Chief at Harper’s Bazaar Art, Arabia) with Dr Alia Al-Senussi (whose academic focus is the nexus of contemporary art and cultural diplomacy). ‘Art in Saudi Arabia’, spotlights the role of contemporary art in the regions ‘new push for sweeping internal reform and cultural diplomacy’.

Essentially, for the Saudi Kingdom, Art is set to take centre in their 2030 Vision strategy, initiating ‘new terms of engagement with the international community’ on the world stage. The Middle East has long been a cradle of civilization, fostering artistic expression. But, with the Saudi Vision for 2030 and its emergent contemporaries reinterpreting traditional themes and techniques in innovative ways, this cultural heritage is experiencing a renaissance.
Saudi Arabian artist, Abdullah Qandeel, can certainly be attributed to this charge. Through his bold use of line, colour and form, evoking senses of nostalgia, Qandeel challenges conventional notions of tradition and modernity, identity and belonging and encourages artistic discourse and collaboration on an international level.
The vibrant world of Middle Eastern contemporary art, spearheaded by artists like Abdullah Qandeel, is a testament to the region's enduring creativity and cultural richness. As interest in this dynamic sector continues to soar, it represents not only a journey of exploration and appreciation but also a savvy investment choice. With its fusion of tradition and innovation, Middle Eastern art offers investors the chance to participate in a flourishing market with promising returns, while also contributing to the preservation and celebration of a vibrant cultural legacy.

As Saudi Arabia prepares to host the World Expo, there is an opportunity for the country to showcase its rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expressions to a global audience. This could lead to a surge in interest and investment in Saudi Arabian art, both traditional and modern. Furthermore, the Expo's theme: ‘The Era of Change: Together for a foresighted tomorrow’, may inspire artists to create pieces that reflect these values, potentially influencing art trends worldwide. Additionally, the influx of visitors and international attention generated by the Expo could stimulate the local art scene, fostering collaboration, dialogue, and growth within the Kingdom's artistic community.
